I just bought a GA-7DXR+ (AMD-761/V686 chipset) board from GigaByte to run my Athlon based RT2500-NLE machine and I'm wondering what VIA drivers to install.
Regarding the GA-7DX (the first version of this board,w/o the Promise controller) Matrox states they installed the 4-in-1 VIA drivers after the AMD AGP Miniport driver (v.5.22 for W2k,v.4.80 for WMe,although they say it's v.5.22 also which I think is wrong).
What's bugging me is that the board installation CD-ROM only comes with two VIA drivers, the PCI IDE Device Driver v.3.01.1 and the VIA Bus master IDE Filter Driver v.1.10. Moreover the "4-in-1" set of drivers also include the VIA AGP VxD driver. Well, shouldn't this driver be for VIA chipsets only (N-Bridge & S-Bridge) and wouldn't it conflict with the AMD driver already installed?
So where do we stand? 4-in-1 or installation CD-ROM? And if the latter should I go to the VIAHardware/VIArena site(s) to download the latest release(s),individually?
Another thing: In the BIOS there's the choice of interrupt mode APIC & PIC. What is I/O APIC? Should I use it instead of PIC (which I don't know what is either)? Under which OS's?
On one of my first installs I noticed that IRQ assignments under Win 2k where up to 19 (IRQ-19?!?!?) WITHOUT the RT2500 card.
Advise on this please,thank you.
