    Ulead' pricing

I'm sure a most of us here haven't really put a lot of money into higher-end DVD authoring solutions. I almost bit on "CD Motion" and ReelDVD but resisted both. Just too expensive, even for a one-time purchase. For that reason, I am willing to give Ulead the benefit of the doubt, and, although I won't preorder this, I will be reading up on the beta testing very carefully and will be right there with my credit card if this package turns out to be something special. As for the price, hey, if Ulead' pricing somewhat takes advantage of what the market will bear for a product that lets one put together a really advanced DVD, then that's fine. It's still lower than the others. We'll just have to wait and see what this looks like.

By the way, I'm certainly no expert on Uleads business practices, but, I get the feeling they intend this product to be a seperate moneymaker for them and all its features won't end up integrated into MSP#. Thats just my opinion so don't jump me too bad.

OK, touché re DV>MPEG: I forgot about that because I don't have the possibility of DV-IN (or DV-OUT, for that matter). My mini-DV cam has only a high-quality analogue out (it's 6 years old!). But surely no one records back to VHS as an intermediate step to use the analogue>MPEG function??????

As for slide shows, I made a short one, a wee while back, onto SVCD, with no difficulty. I took the JPG files from my still cam at 1280 x 960 (c. 330 kb each) and simply imported them into MSP 6.5, stretched them along the timeline and added transitions and voice-over. Then generated the SVCD-compliant MPEG-2 file and the rest was standard DVD plug-in. It was as easy as falling off a log and I don't need to spend a fairish fraction of a kilobuck more, to do what?

The point I'm trying to make is that for us guys who are not infinitely rich (I live on state pensions), we have to think not twice but at least thrice before parting with big bucks, even if it would make life easier. If we can do things with what we have, we do so, even if its a bit more laborious. So far, I've not seen much with this software that would make me rush out to order it, other than some fancy gimmicks, such as the animation for the menu that I may use once just to see what it does. I'm trying to find out whether there is something that I've missed that may be able to justify the price for someone in my position.

This new information alone may persuade many to upgrade:

My sources reveal the new DVD WORKSHOP not only works well, but KICKS B _ _ _! And this significant detail: DVD WORKSHOP will feature the new ULEAD MPEG.Now codec!

        I got that confirmed.
