  • MSPro 6.5 WinXP patch for more than just WinXP?

Sounds like this is the case.

For the last few days there has been a running thread on the MUG list about some users having problems with long MPEG-2's and A/V synch. Everything was tried including the "keep the same number of frames" option in the Advanced menu. No-go.

    Finally, and in desparation, a user noted that the XP patch notes the following;

    "MediaStudio Pro 6.5

This patch enhances DV playback, synchronization, and record back to DV tape functions for Windows® XP users."

The user took a chance in a WinME system and installed the XP patch.

    Poof!

His A/V synch problem went bye-bye.

Use this info as you see fit.

Now you see why I don't use ANY MS software, especially O/S, until it's a couple of years old with oodles of SPs issued. I always felt that those who rush forth to always have the latest were intrepid characters. And, to be uncharitable, they get everything they deserve

As a general rule, new MS software is (compared with the old):
      • unsecure
      • full of bugs
      • more bloated
      • eliminates the best features
      • adds little that's useful
      • requires a complex upgrade procedure
      • more expensive
      • etc

Quite frankly, if I could get away with it, the MS O/S I would prefer to use, if I could, would be MS-DOS 6.2 without Windows of any flavour. Unfortunately, one cannot get software for it that is compatible with the software that everyone else is using or for things like video editing

Mind you, a DOS video editing suite à la MSPro, were it possible, would go like the clappers of hell: you could probably get real time with a 486 running at 33 MHz with 16 Mb of RAM! And the whole DOS suite came on 3 1.4 Mb floppies, with no compression!

Call me a Luddite, but Windows has not improved the progress of IT and each new version is one step forwards and two steps back IMHO.

        I agree with you.
Therefore I refuse to use Win XP. There are too many hacking/patching/regedit job to do for geting my Marvel G400 to work, to start my wireles LAN card etc etc and more etc. Not to mention the huge HD requirement to install XP (1.2 GB, oh Lord )
I am also an old "DOS Man" I was a net manager in my last job, actually glad retired.
If nothing helps to correct a Win failure, the DOS is my only help tool. It helps even in the DOS-les Win2000.
        Yes, the simple is best...
And, I will stop this subject, because I'll get more and more exited, angry at M$... and at all these upgrades

I agree up to the point of using DOS. Windowing environments CAN be blistering fast if done properly.

I can remember doing realtime exports to videotape using a 25 mhz Amiga3000 and a Video Toaster that had 12 megs of RAM!! This shows how little we have really advanced in the years hence.

What has actually happened is that all of the massive increases in processing power (and then some) have been eaten up by running that crappy bloatware otherwise known as the Windows OS instead of going into running programs faster.

Shades of TRON and the dreaded MCP.....

What I wouldn't give for a version of AmigaOS that runs natively on PC hardware and a version of MSPro to use on it.....

When I was active architectural consulting engineer I designed a lot of houses (now I am retired). After a building was ready built, good or bad, () we went to the next. Why?
1-It was a question of need for new houses/industrial buildings etc.
2-The profit for us, engineers to design newer and newer things, and secondary the feeling to produce SOMETHING new.
How is it with Micro$oft and other program makers?
1-Is it the need of new, better O/S? Yes, but how better are they? Do I need new O/S every year? NO!!! Or, do I?
2-The PROFIT? YEEEEES…yeeppeecaye (is it right spelling?).
They can’t stop producing new things, good or bad. They just MUST to produce SOMETHING. Otherwise no profits, no job for the programmers, unemployment etc etc…

The question is still there: must I move to a new house every year?

Don’t forget, the population of the Earth year ±0 was counted in hundred of thousand of people. Today, year +2002, we count in more than 4-5 billion of people.

We need more and more Windows… Do we?

It was something of topic. Sorry, I felt to post it here.

This patch enhances DV playback, asynchronization, and record back to DV tape functions for Windows® XP users.
Looks like this is just a case of a poorly written sentence. The "for Windows XP users" prepositional tag implies that the whole patch is for XP -- I believe they intended to say that XP's DV tape functions are fixed.
