Well, I'm not surpriced....If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.
Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."

I suspect these are just the "base class" model numbers. My Canon ZR10 is not listed and it seems to work on XP despite the 1394 disk drives not being found issue.
Don't mistake me for defending XP. I think this is more MS FUD to discredit critics. Lists like this will get circulated widely, but when most camcorders end up working the critics will lose credability.

Here's a Microsoft Web page that explains WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) and its purpose:
"WIA is both an application programming interface (API) and a device driver interface (DDI). WIA supports still digital cameras and scanners. It allows retrieving still images from IEEE 1394-based digital video (DV) camcorders and USB-based web cams."

Ahhh...yes. But now the next question:
Given all these new IEEE-1394 device layers added to the drivers what has that done to compatability? WMA isn't the only one since they are now supporting all manner of multimedia devices in IEEE-1394 that were not in previous OS's.
There seems to be a problem as some people who upgrade are having problems. Also there are "XP patches" coming out for editing products as well.
Something changed......

There be bugs in XP for sure!
My new HP N5495 laptop came with XP home pre-installed. Fails to detect any 1394 storage device (two brands of 1394 hard drive, Buslink 1394 CR-RW). 1394 storage does work on XP pro on an old Dell I have at the office (for verifying my code runs on XP, like it or not its an economic reality). HP support has acknowledged "an issue" with 1394 and XP. Both systems work with my DV cams
But propagating stories implying most DV cams won't work when in fact they do weakens our really valid complaints.
Just say no to XP.

I didn't imply most since many cams would work because of working designs across a product line.
What I'm curious about is the possibility that all these changes to XP's IEEE-1394 support have precipitated what you're discribing.
