could you tell us more facts, details?

-Do you run Matrox graphic driver built in XP?
-If yes, how can you switch the dual head?
-If no, which PowerDesk did you install?
-Which VidCap program do you use?
-If not the Matrox VT, can you watch TV?
-If Matrox VT, which one and how did you install it? Most of us get break in the installation process without patching/hacking the reg.
And if the VT installs anyway, how do you keep it stable? (just BSODs in my computer)
-Did you install the SW just right in, or did you use some register hacks etc?
-Is the bus mastering on or off?
-You said "W2k and XP". W2K is OK. The trouble is in XP.
-Do you have a dual boot system of W2K-XP?

Your details could be useful for us, unlucky with XP.

Do you run Matrox graphic driver built in XP?

did originally, then installed powerdesk 539.

-If yes, how can you switch the dual head?

never used dual head. (that's for 2 monitors or something right?)

-If no, which PowerDesk did you install?

      w2k_539.exe

-Which VidCap program do you use?

avi io, also works in vdub

-If not the Matrox VT, can you watch TV?

      use matrox vts.

-If Matrox VT, which one and how did you install it? Most of us get break in the installation process without patching/hacking the reg.
And if the VT installs anyway, how do you keep it stable? (just BSODs in my computer)

i use w2kvt204.exe (w2k_vt202e.exe also worked originally). i just install it and that's it. no different to any other program. cant remember if i restart or not but it works. i also don't do anything to 'keep it stable'. it just works man. i do get BSOD if i try to crash the tv proggie. i mean if my sys is really busy and i press the close button on the remote and it is takes too long, i just used task manager to close it and 'crash'. apart from that though it is stable.

-Did you install the SW just right in, or did you use some register hacks etc?

like i said before, i just installed them right in. sometimes straight after i install windows, other times a while after cos i forget.

-Is the bus mastering on or off?

no idea what this is. i havent done anything though. maybe someone can tell me what this is.

-You said "W2k and XP". W2K is OK. The trouble is in XP.
-Do you have a dual boot system of W2K-XP?

nope. i used to have a dual boot of ME and 2k then ME and XP and now i only have XP. worked in all OSes without problems.
      ---------------

dont think that is much help for you though. sorry. i have only used the same vt's and Pdesk that has been sitting on my hard disk for months now.

surely there must be someone else who can get this thing working but me?

Now I solved the BSOD when I try to click a HW dmb1 MJPEG file.
Installed the Matrox Wise 204 Video Tools from here: http://home.planet.nl/~editor/website1007.htm

It switches off effective the dmb1 codec (the hardware MJPEG ) and no mistake to try to create HW MJPEGs. The old ones are played well, without BSODs.
The original VT 2.04 Final doesn’t work.
Now I capture PICVideo SW MJPEG or MPEG1/2 with MSP6.5.
The only issue is that I can’t display the timeline from MSP6.0/6.5 on the TV. It works only with dmb1.
        Maybe someone has an idea?
I have one: back to my W98SE/W2K system

how about the bios? i havent touched the bios on my card, how many of you have updated it from when you got it?

i am kinda worried. once i get my aiw 8500 dv i plan to put my g400 into my second sys and capture using that. if i am just lucky now, could it not work then ?

i dont want to have all the hassles that you guys are having to get this working. maybe i'll just use a ghost backup to put xp on the hard disk of my 2nd computer. if i have problems then hopefully that may work. i wonder if that would work for you guys? i mean if you had an image of a xp with the hw mjpeg working, would that get it working for you?

            Huhhhh...
Now I am back with my dual system: W98SE/W2K Pro.

Windows is much faster and stable (W2K)
HW MJPEG capture is stable and fast.
MSP 6.0/6.5 TV display from VE-Timeline OK now.
My wireless LAN is safe and fast again
Startup is a bit slower, who cares?

Just for information: I am happy now, without XP.

And am waiting for Win XP SP1
