    One more thing to condider:

this doesn't just affect overlays etc. Imagine if you have to apply a video filter to a whole long segment. That or if you have to use a plugin like ViXen to bring dark footage out of the cellar.

In either case the codec and the duales get stressed.

This is a real world situations where the SSE/SSE2/3DNow! enhancements will be faster than a dualie.

I will have to try that. Generally my footage doesn't require any filtering since I "try" (Then again, don't we all?) to shoot under optimum lighting. And my 3 chipper hasn't let me down yet with footage I have brought into the computer for editing.

Don't know if I'll have time to try running a filter across a segment until the weekend. But I will try it and post back here with the results.

Thanks for all your insight on this. Your prior post that mentioned a case by case trial is sure coming into play on this one.

Most times case-by-case is the best you can hope for

In the case of comparing MSPro to Premiere I wanted to keep smartrender out of the comparison since that would also be "cheating".

I can do that, there are many P4 systems at work that I can use for a short test.

However, email isn't an option - limited size. I do have broadband so if you can upload it someplace?

I will try and find someplace I can upload the file to later today along with the specific parameters I used for an apples to apples comparison.

              OK

What P4 shall I use? I will try and locate at least a Northwood among the PCs at work, but what clockspeed would be most interesting to test?
