  • OT: QuickTime 5.x? No, QT 6 with MPEG-4

Lots of folks were predicting that Apple Computer would release QuickTime 5.1 yesterday at the QuickTime Live! Conference in Beverly Hills, CA. They were wrong. Apple went straight to QuickTime 6 that features full support for MPEG-4, the emerging standard for streaming high quality content to computers and other digital devices.

See link for full story. Wonder what the benifits for us will be??

The benefits will be the ability to play fully ISO MPEG-4, of course. With the full version this will likely also mean full encoding capability with it as well.

This is the future guys. The powers that be are moving towards MPEG-4 and MPEG-7/21 for content discription. MPEG-2 will still be around as MPEG-4 can use it as a stream source, but it'll add a lot of functions MPEG-2 does not have.
