  • Mjpeg & Xp?

I'm wondering if it's posible to capture mjpeg with XP.
Is it posible to adept the mjpeg patch for 2000 to XP,
I'va tried the 2000 patch and that resulted in a major crash not so weird while importing those reg-lines in XP. But i wonder, it shoud be possible to rewrite for 2000 to XP patch, or isnt it???

    Wellcome to the gang
This MJPEG subject was "rag-chewed" a lot here at this Forum, and it is not finished yet....

How to capture mjpeg with XP? Some ideas you can find here:

Some of them are really good to capture SW MJPEG, with PIC Video or Morgan codecs.
What capture card do you use?

And the problems discutions can be found here:

    and here:

    etc, etc, etc.

Yes i should have mentioned that I've a marvel G400 tv and that it works just fine with XP. I use the videotools for 2000 and the G500 XP drivers via the ".inf trick" from this forum. For capturing i use Huffyuv with VDub but as the capturing progresses the audio jitter expands and more frames are dropt. This is while capturing in full frames. So i figure caputering trou hardware will eliminate the problem. (I probably should use avi_io, but i'm not keen on purchasing sofware ) So i thought that is could be possible to adept the mjpeg "reg-trick" for use with the 2000 videotools for XP mentioned in the first thread.

      3. Download this zip file. It contains rricm.dll and rrvcap32.dll. Extract it in \system32 folder (e.g. C:\WinNT\system32)
      4. Download this zip file. It's rrMjpeg.ax. Extract it in Videotools folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Matrox Video Tools )
      5. Download and run this .reg file. It adds the following lines in system registry:
      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
      "VIDC.dmb1"="rricm.dll"
      6. Start MenĂ¹ -> Run -> regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\rrMjpeg.ax" (or whatever is the path of this file, you have to write also " " )

So I know my card can, i know it can be done with the tools on 2000, there for it should be possible to do it on XP for it code overlaps 2000's. Is this right or dus it sound like reasoning of a raving lunatic

      Tanx in advance

You must capture with software MJPEG codec with3-part capture program, not with the PCVCR.

Yes the patches worked for me, PD 5.39 and VT 2.04 Final, WITH patches as you described.

But I am back with Win98SE + Win 2K in dual boot. Here I can capture with hardware MJPEG codec.
It has some pros. in MSP 6.0.

Is that recipe works for RRG + G400?

I need at least YUV or Huffyuv capture and TV-tuner function under Win2k. I'll think about XP later.

The PD 5.39 + VT 2.04 Final with patches and reg hacks is for XP.
You may fidle with the VT2.04 "Wise" too, to get it work in XP, no HW MJPEG.
In W2K Pro, which is my primary boot (but in the second logical partition) I configured it easy with PD 5.39 and VT 2.04 Leaked. No patch, no reg hacks and it captures HW-MJPEG.

Otherwise the SW-MJPEG is good if you have a fast CPU and 256 or more RAM.

I can't display the timeline scrubbing to TV in MSP6.0, with software codec but it works fine with HW-MJPEG (W98SE or W2K Pro)

              Thanks for replay Fred.

I've noticed thay you have Marvel G400TV and probably speaking from your own experience. Should it work with my RRG too? Can someone with RRG+G400DH combo can verify that? It would be nice if any RRG owner can certify that.

So you think that is posible to use RRG/G400 capture ( RGB/YUV ) and TV-tuner capability under Windows XP?

                magician-
I really don't know if it'll go with the RRG+G400, but I hope it does.
If you have another HD, physical or logical partition, with enough space, than you can Ghost-backup your system and TRY.
If it doesn't work, you can restore your working partition in about 10 to 15 min, but be carefull with Ghost. Do not save the ghost file on the same partition you will overvrite later, and start with e.g. W98 startdisk.

It is my method to test.
                Good luck!
