People,
I'm a proud owner of a Canon MV20 digital camcorder and I was searching the net to find widgets which can enable the DV-in on the firewire socket. After speaking to a few dealers, I found one called Datavision who were selling one called the CanoWidget for £89+vat!!! I thought this was extremely high for a device which just changes a few bytes in the camera's firmware.
I then started to search for DIY methods and I learned that the remote control for the camera has hidden buttons. These buttons can put the camera into service mode and allow the relevant bytes to be changed. The instructions are on: http://www.xs4all.nl/~bbouwens/dv/ I trie it last night and it was really easy - anyone can do it. It is also completely reverseable just incase the camera has to go back to the shop/Canon. I'll try the DV-in tonight and let you all know if it works.
I hope this helps anyone when you are deciding on what camera to get. The Canon is a superb camera with a good ergonomic feel and good arrangement of buttons. It also has progressive scan so it can be used as a suberb still camera too. It costs around £800inc.
Regards
Brum
