  • [Win 98] Please help! TV-out on G400 Marvel really dark/cripple

System specs: Duron700, MSI K7tPro2a, 256MB PC133 Infeneon, Maxtor 20 GB 7200 RPM, Maxtor 30 GB 5400 RPM, Sound onboard.

I recently discovered that when using my (composite) TV-out from the Breakout Box, I only get very dark (almost not visible), jerky and almost negative-coloured picture on my TV.

The strange thing is, this exact same setup hes been working fine for months up until now (when I REALLY need it bad).

I tried various old and new Pdesk and Vidtools drivers and older and newer G400 BIOS-updates, but nothing helped.
I tried switching between PAL, NTSC and SECAM but it all looked the same.
It happens with every type of video (MJPEG, Divx, MPEG1) with DVDMax and also when I send my desktop view to the TV-out.

Strange thing is: PCVCR Remote can capture video (straight from the same TV withe the same cable) like it should!!!

Can ANYBODY please help me? Please tell me my hardware didn't die...

Did you check the settings in the DVD Max TV settings box of teh Display Properties under Dualhead? Check those, the SW installs may not have overwritten your settings if they becam corrupt or misadjusted.

Yes I quadruplechecked all the settings i know of, even installed windows98 again (2 times)...All the sliders are on their default position. And i f I move them, the picture on my TV hardly changes. Even the colorbars that appear when adjusting the TV-out signal are all strangecoloured...cable type is correct (composite>SCART) pff...this is REALLY puzzling...

You could try bypassing the BOB if you can get hold of some female/female RCA adaptors. I managed to get a few from Tandy (Radioshack) in the UK before they folded and use them for a lot of things.

sorry for all the fuss, but everythings working again!
          I had had a defective scart-converterplug...

by the way, This_Idiot, what do you mean with bypassing the Breakout Box? (I have a female/female RCA plug)...

          thanks for the replies...

Well the BOB has female connectors either side for video/audio in/out. Therefore the leads that you use to connect to the BOB have male connectors. If you can get hold of female/female connectors (they look like small barrels) then you can plug the connectors from Matrox BOB connector cable into the lead that you use to connect to your VCR.

            Good luck
