Servers have been hacked...
From Readyhosting.com:
As many of you are aware, at the beginning of this month our network was attacked by a hacker. We lost two web servers and four instances of SQL out of the 100 servers we currently host and were not able to recover the backups we had in place. Since the attack we are working on upgrading our backup system, firewall and phone system to ensure this does not happen in the future.
We were in the process of upgrading our Raid V backup system to a new tape system when the attack happened. Because of the in-between process we were unable to recover the data on the servers that we lost. The new backup system is now functioning completely and we have fully tested the system to ensure that all backups are recoverable to avoid this type of situation in the future.
Furthermore, we are in the process of upgrading our network infrastructure to include a brand new, top of the line firewall system. This system consists of two dual Pentium III 1GHZ machines with 2 Gig of RAM. These firewalls are being load balanced using state of the art hardware load balancing switches. This will not only improve the quality of service given to our customers by offering a higher level of security, but will help to increase the speed of the network due to the load balancing.
In addition, we are also upgrading our phone system and support staff once again to ensure that all customer requests are responded to in a timely and efficient manner. For those of you who have received multiple busy signals and long hold times when calling our company, we would like to apologize for this great inconvenience. We have had our staff working around the clock to catch up with each customer's concerns and requests. We will be operating as normal by the beginning of next week. We appreciate your patience while we continue to implement the necessary upgrades.
We realize the last couple of weeks have been extremely frustrating for our customers and would like to apologize for the inconveniences this has caused. We want to assure you that we have taken every possible step to avoid this in the future and will continue to do everything possible to ensure our network remains secure at all costs. Be assured that no customer data was compromised during the attack. We really appreciate the support we have received from our current customers and thank you for your patience and understanding while we implement our upgrades for continued service.
I don't exactly understand this message. In the first paragraph they say they could not recover the backups. But the last paragraph says they no customer data was lost.
Hopefully they didn't lose my data. Not a huge deal to rebuild that tiny site but I'd rather not have to.

As soon as I can contact them and definitely know that the old site is gone I'll get it up again.
Luckily, I have the table of results in an Excel spreadsheet. That's really the majority of the site.
Rebuilding my band's site, we'll I don't even want to think about that right now...

I've been thinking that it would be nice to find somebody to replicate the actions of Terry's test for VV3.- Mark

I agree because it would finally bring some of that phony euphoria to a halt.
I've tested Vegas Video 3.0
The cryptic interface is really Vegas Audio with video features tacked on in my opinion... and no DVD authoring at all.
But the really bad thing about it was how slow it rendered... it took forever!
Man, I'd love to get a set of numbers to show how much faster MediaStudio Pro really is.
They can brag about the Sonic Foundry DV codec all they want...
...if it takes an ETERNITY to render the final project...
WHAT'S THE POINT???
I'm upgrading next week to an Athlon XP2000+ on my home system so I can't wait to try Doc's test again with that processor.

Exactly what I was thinking.
As I've said before, I actually purchased VA 2 for audio multitracking and it's great for that. But, video editing is very different from audio multitracking and I don't find the interface intuitive for video work. Plus, VA's interface obviously designed for audio track MIXING, not EDITING. Even Sonic Foundry will admit that they (mixing and editing) are two different beasts which is why they offer Sound Forge for editing and Vegas Audio for mixing.
One nice thing is that all of the VA audio filters are available in MS Pro! They do have some pretty good sounding eq, compressors, and reverbs.- Mark
