  • Flickering line at bottom of screen

    Help please

I have a Matrox Marvel g400 tv, MSP 6, running W2000 with the latest drivers installed.

I have a thin flickering line at the bottom of screen in all modes, capture, preview or playing a vhs tape or Sony video 8 camcorder via PC/VCR, MSP6 or any win play or prieview mode.

The line transfers to final vhs tape production and is less visible when played back through vcr to tv so my guess is that it is not just a computer monitor problem.

    Any thoughts please

There's no problem with your equipment.

It's normal to have flickering lines at the bottom and/or top of the screen with video. You don't usually see it on a television screen though because of the TV's overscan. If these flickering lines bother you while watching video on your computer monitor, just crop them out in MSP. Keep in mind however that this will add considerably to rendering time.

      You're welcome

Gotta love people that ask questions at forums such as this and then can't even be bothered to acknowledge a reply.

No mate. Your peeve message didn't get my attention, your reply to my question did, and thank you for that.

I'm curious what that line is used for, when capturing from vhs tape... is it used for tracking of the video heads on the vcr ?

                You're welcome

dZeus, I don't know the answer to your question but I notice those annoying lines when capturing from 8mm/Hi8 analog tapes as well. I don't normally watch edited video on my computer monitor so it's not usually a problem, but if I did I'd certainly crop them off.

                  Patrick,

Some folks have lives away from the computer and don't check every message board every day (or even every week.)

                    Have I hit a nerve?

                    "Every message board"?

That's being rather silly now, isn't it? I would think that if a person is interested enough to post a question then they'd be interested enough to check for responses at that particular forum on a regular basis.

Today, out of curiosity, I looked over some previous questions posted by Dasher and I could see that he usually responds and thanks the people who gave him advice. I don't doubt his word at all that he was away for a few days. I'm sorry if it appeared that the brunt of my comments were directed at him. However, I don't regret saying what I did if for no other reason than it might possibly hit home with those posters who do not bother to acknowledge a response to their questions. I guess it just burns me a bit that there are some people who take for granted any help they might get at forums such as this.
