Nutty idea? - Sw DV codec for analogue captures

The idea is to cut down on editing/rendering time when one mixes analogue and digital captures on the timeline before outputting to tape.

Does such an animal exist?

If it does, can you supply a link and maybe some experiences?

Is it just pie-in-the-sky like SW Mjpeg used to be?

Software DV codecs already exist, like MainConcept's.

You must probably convert your clips to 720x576 / 720x480, field order "A" before compressing with such a codec to make sure it's compatible with DV video.
Another option yould be a hardware DV converter which does this "on the fly".
