  • DV Date and Time Info

Does anybody know if the date and time info (of original recording) gets captured along with the DV data?

I used to keep this info on my captured analog footage (for home movies) but now I've moved to digital it's no longer there !

Is there an easy way to get it on there or do I have to add the text myself and re-render every frame !!! I hope not.

    Thanks.

    Hi

The data code all gets captured but you have no way of seeing it on the computer.

After you have transmitted the video back to your camcorder you can use Display & Data code on your camcorder as normal, then it can be shown on the TV or VHS.

The minutes data is shown as well though, but thats down to Sony.

    IHTH

Its contained within the data packets
gives you best of both worlds

      a) You can make it visible when playing the footage from the cam to an analog device and record this output so an analog copy displays it permanently as part of the footage as John suggests

      B) You can hide or show it when playing direct from the digital source as its just an overlay thats keyed on top

Can look pretty messy post editing if you opt to show this in the footage.. ie date and time will hop around like crazy depending on how much cutting you do and some parts will be blank where new footage has been rendered (ie during a transition etc)

The embedded information within the clips captured to PC can also be utilised primarily by third party applets such as scenalyzer -

You can grab a 30 min DV capture load this into scenalyzer and have it scan the data contained in the file It can then display a lits of the individual clips which differ in terms of date or time and give you the option to split the file into its constituent parts (letting you discard scenes you no longer want to keep in the process)

AFAIK Ulead MSP 6 also posts timecodes if clips being dealt with were originaly batch-captured using the MSPro 6 vidcapture applet
(and havent been renamed or moved in the meantime)

Which is great if you have an accurate cam - you can then use the project file from the original edit as the batch capturefile for the new copy, and batch capture identical clips with identical names - allowing duplication of a project on another machine or reloading of an edit that got lost or temporarily sidelined (providing you still have original unmodified source tape of course)

I'm pretty sure at least one editing package will allow you to view maybe even change the information directly within the editor (though AFAIK not overlayed on the footage perse but displayed below it?) Can't remember which one it was but I think it might have been Edit DV or Raptor Edit that had this feature
