  • Divx AVI showing blackscreen with virtualdub

I was trying to append some divx avis using virtualdub 1.48 but got an error wrt differing bitrates. I said to myself why don't I save them as uncompressed video ans avoid this problem. The problem is that the output is a pure blackscreen. What could have caused this? Is there a workaround? I have no idea what the prob could be as other divx movies render correctly. (the movies play fine in wmp 6.4 or 8, as well as realone ati fileplayer, the playa and divx player 2.0)

re compress the offending segment, and the retry?

have you tried virtual dub 1.49?

Vegas Video and DVD movie factory also show it as blackscreen. The framerate is 12 fps (explains why it is so flickery in mediaplayers)

It seems the problem was related to the Divx 5.0 codec. I just uninstalled 5.0 and reinstalled 4.12 and the problem went away. It may be that for files with that particular type of characteristic will not be handled correctly by the 5.0 codec at its default setting, whereas they will be correctly decompressed by 4.12 at its default settings.

Apparently this is known issue with divx 5 the divx.dll will not render the divx 3.11 encoded files properly, while the Directshow filter will, thus mediaplayers will work but vdub, dvd moviemaker etc will show blackscreen
