  • VirtualDUB,RT2500,Studio DC10+ & the kitchen sink!!!

    Hi!

I'm having two problems while working with VirtualDUB (v.1.4.9).

1.When I try to append an AVI segment from a movie captured with the Matrox RT2500 MPEG/DV card I always get the error message "Cannot append segment. The video streams have different data formats.". I find it strange since the movie-file is itself "segmented" using the Matrox Infinite Capture system so the data format must (should?) be exactly the same. Are there any issues between Matrox or the RT codecs and VD?

2.I'm unable to make segmented captures with the Pinnacle Studio DC10+ M-JPEG card. If I use the Studio software (v.1.06) it works fine (9GB,5 files,no prob),but when I try it with VD it ends up displaying an error message at around 3GB capture. Am I doin' something wrong,or just everything?

BTW,VD recognizes & appends the segmented files created by the Studio app, without a problem. But since my main work is made with the RT card I really appreciate any help.

    THANX!

AFAIK VirtualDUB doesn't do DV type1, which uses DirectShow. This is what the RT series captures.

I have no knowledge of the Pinnacle cards, so you need to look elsewhere for that info.

VirtualDub (1.4.7) opens DV type-1 files just fine over here... only audio extraction doesn't work (maybe in a more recent version of VD?)

VirtualDub 1.4.9 indeed opens the video file which is MPEG2-I format (analog capture) . The problem is that when I try to append the rest of the files (the ones that are stored in the .seq folder) it shows me the error message I mentioned.

I'd very much like to know why.

        Thanks for the replies.

VirtualDub of all versions will only append 2 clips if they are perceived to be EXACTLY the same frame rate. I get this error message all the time. Virtual dub scans a clip when it loads and calculates the AVERAGE frame rate, down to about 4 decimal places. eg PAL format - 25.0000 fps. The frame rate can vary because of dropped frames and clock errors etc, and so will average out across a whole clip to be slightly off 25 fps, eg. 25.0006 fps. If the appended clip is found to have an ever-so-slightly different AVREAGE frame rate to the other clip, it will reject it

            O.K.

I'm starting to accept that I won't be using VD with Matrox captured vids. Bummer...

Nevertheless, regarding the "dropped frames" factor I'm not getting any while capturing with the RT from Premiere, while with the Pinnacle Studio DC10+ I'm getting around 1 dropped frame each 9 min.@6MB/s DR,yet VD works just fine.

Thank you all for the replies.

If there's any work around that you can remember please post.
