  • OT: Seagate ST380021A & FastTRack100

Greets O' Knowledgeable Denizens of MURC!

I just picked up a pair of 80gig Seagates and am having problems getting them to work properly with RAID0.

I've checked with Seagate and they tell me..."Ummm...yes...we've received many complaints and these drives will work fine on RAID1 or higher but have problems with RAID0. We're working on a fix but have nothing so far". URGHHH!!!!

Does anyone here have the same drives and know of a workaround? Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks for any advice (other than 'return the drives to the vendor'...I know that one already *grin*)

    funsoul,

you can check out the following thread from storagereview.com

It's all about raid0 and CudaIV drives

I don't remember where I read it, but I do remember comming across some info related to compatability issues with certain Promise controllers.

I can't speak from experience regarding any issues with the series IV Seagates, but I don't see how it could hurt to try software stripping and see if that makes a difference (mandatory "DUH" - unless you're using Win9X, in which case sorry for the suggestion)

Yes I drive a 13yr old Volkswagen; Yes I'm a dirt poor college student; Yes every tank of gas is more $$ than the value of my car, but it is FUN to drive, so I don't care about your ego or how much your car cost, if you insist on going the exact same speed in the passing lane as the car next to you for 10 minutes, stop being a self righteous ass, move the hell over and just let me by!!!

      thanks vwdrivrco

      *bummoir*

will try win2k's software RAID before shipping the drives back to the vendor. At least the Seagate Customer Service supervisor has said that Seagate will refund me for any restocking and shipping charges.

      Thanks for your reply!
