  • realtime divx creation...

what is the method of choice to create divx with a matrox marvel g400tv? I ask because someone earlier on the internet I had a chat with about it said he was able to do realtime divx compression on the fly. I am interested in this since, divx costs a fraction of the space and yeilds very good quality. my guess is you cannot create divx from hardware mjpeg avi and so I will have to use a software codec of some sort to capture. thankyou.

    sys config:
    mainboard: abit kt7a/1.4tbird/512crucial
    video: marvel g400tv
scsi: symbios wide scsi controller with 10k bootdisk and two 18gig capture drives.
    cdroms: all plextor scsi
    soundcard: turtle beach santa cruz

You either use drivers that support YUY2 or use Flying Dutchmans patch on older drivers to enable it. You'll also need to install DivX, of course.

Once you've done that you can use VirtualDUB or AVI_IO to capture. Set the Format for YUY2 and the Compression for DivX and you should be off to the races.

But be sure that you need one hell of a CPU to do realtime DivX, at least when capturing fullscreen.
An AthlonXP1800+ is the minimum, and even this one is only fast enough (at least if you want to do it at full quality) for 16:9 movies if you crop the black borders.
For full 4:3 resolution you have to reduce the quality/speed slider.

Try this. They are modified MPEG4 codecs to enable compression.

Sorry next post down, follow the link in this one for AVInfo
It should work, I used to use MPEG4 for capturing and it is a lot less CPU intensive than DivX. I could capture with my old Celeron 450 at full frameratre and very nice results.

The AVInfo program should allow you to change the FourCC code to work with DivX, though I have never tried it myself. AVI.exe does not change them correctly or I would have used it. There is also a program that wil fix MPEG4 files to play DivX, but I could not find it.

Give it a try, the worst thing that could happen is that it doesn't work.

Here are the MPEG4 files. I guess it was too big with AVInfo in there with it.

          EDIT

Guess that is too big as well. I'll try to break it up. It is as stripped down as I could make it and as highly compressed as I could get it.
