You violated rule #1 for using advanced capture devices: you didn't use a mainboard from the recommended list. These are boards that have been tested with the card in question, thereby giving you a much better chance at sucess.

    That said you might want to check your card placement on the RT-2000 mainboard list, a card that was tested with this mainboard;

Please note that the codec card for the RT-2000 is not placed in the PCI slot next to the AGP, but in the next one down the line. If you have not done this you should with the RT-2500.

This is because the PCI next to the AGP most often shares an INT line with it. This can be death to getting a capture card working properly.

Also advantageous is that in most boards, BX's in particular, the 2nd PCI from the AGP is most often the only un-shared slot in the board. Great since most capture cards just love being alone.

If your card placement is not next to the AGP then list where your card (and the other cards) are and we'll start trying to figure out something else....

      many thanks for link..........
just as a quickie until i get time to work on my comp..
the rt was put in the same slot an ads pyro came out of pci 4 as i thought it would use that irq. as originally i had to juggle to get everything to work.............
also my win2000 install was upgrade from 98se. in retrospect i should have done clean install as you would probably agree.

i am part way thru clean install of 2000 etc on a different drive. but i have had to stop to upgrade "she who must be obeyed"s
      comp
      thanks again

I *STRONGLY* suggest using a full/fresh install of any OS over an "upgrade" installation. Upgrade installations are fraught with problems you don't want to get involved with.

I have a removable boot drive on my main system. I have one drive set up with my "normal" stuff; internet, email etc. etc. and another just for editing. Of course since I also betatest a lot there is also a removable drive just for that. This keeps everything on the editing and beta setups from being trashed by the normal use junk we all accumulate.

Drive bays run from $20 for plastic ones to $50 for metal ones. Caddies (drive holders) run $10-30, depending on material and the presence or absense of a fan.

          further update to problem
          "clean" install of win2000..........
used original tools. ver3 discs that came with card.
          everything installed ok apparently.
when try to capture analogue, window shows matrox logo from premiere startup(corrupted) not video footage?
out put to tape deck is from g450 dualhead & not bob.? does output have to come out of bob?
rt2500,g450& dv all have irq 11 could this be part of problem??

i seem to be getting there but slowly, unfortunatley as the wife says i haven`t a shred of patience at the best of times
any suggestions gratefully recieved (before divorce or murder"mine")

Yes, use the analog outputs from the BOB and try turning off the dualhead feature on the G450.

While most all devices going to a single IRQ is normal for Windows2000 & XP as they use ACPI hardware abstraction layers instead of the "old way" used in Win9x.

That doesn't mean it works well in editing systems. In fact many times it doesn't because one cards driver, ACPI header or the mainboard itself will not cooperate.

I wouldn't trust an older ABIT mainboard in this regard as far as I could throw my kids Dodge Dakota Sport.

            To this end I usually install my Win2K video setups using what is called the "Standard PC" option. To do this you;

            1. disable ACPI (power management) in the mainboards bios.

            2. when Win2K starts to install a blue screen will display prompting for you to "Press F6 to configure SCSI devices....".

Press F5 instead and in a few seconds you will be presented with a menu of which "Standard PC" will be one of the options. Select this and proceed with the rest of the installation as normal.

This will disable the all devices on one IRQ thing, allowing you to card swap to get a mix of device IRQ sharing that works for your hardware.

                hello again!!!!!

swapped a/v cables round tried disabling dualhead.
to cut long story short umpteen restarts got dualhead to stay off.. matrox logo still in capture window..
when "identify" monitors clicked it shows both monitors as "1"
the screen on tv goes black as if trying to show picture on playback. on startup of premiere matrox logo appears on t.v.
                then disappears.............

looks like i will be implementing Dr Mordrids suggestion of re-install win 2000 etc

                thanks again
