  • Microsoft chooses sides in DVD war

    FYI,

"This presentation explains how support for DVD+RW in Windows has been designed to become the standard storage solution for the PC and consumer electronics environments," reads the description of a presentation planned for next week's show. Microsoft will be adding support for DVD+RW into a future version of Windows, code-named Longhorn, according to the site."

why am I not surprised which one they picked?

The DVD+RW drives we tested all sucked and didn't work properly, just like Windoze

By the time they release longhorn, we'll all have 30GB blue laser drives anyway

Before someone panics here: this means dd squat for the format wars. Decisive (if there ever will be a decisive victory; just look at MO drives, multiple formats) will be support on standalones, where the DVD-Forum makes the rules. They were not happy with MS decision to support the rogue format so expect much more talk, argueing and mudslinging before this is settled definitely at MS
