  • Make VCD from DV using G400tv

    Hello,

I have a G400TV. I want to capture the movie from my DV through S-Video and record the movie in VCD so that normal VCD player can read it. What's the easiest way to do that?

    Thank you.

The easiest way is to capture the footage in a VCD compliant MPEG, which can be done by the capture application of Ulead's MediaStudioPro 6 or 6.5.
The best way is to capture the footage in AVI-format with AVI_IO and use the HuffYUV codec. Then convert the AVI to VCD compliant MPEG using TMPGenc (and VirtualDub if frameserving is needed).

Thank you very much for your reply.

Do i need to install Dutchmans YUY2 Patch? Does it work with Video Tools version 1.55?

        Hi,

Depends on the OS you´re running. If you want to capture with HuffYUV in Win9x you´ll have to install Flying Dutchman´s patch to enable YUY2 capturing. If you´re running W2K or XP, YUY2 is already enabled, so then you won´t have to patch.

        regards

Thank you very much. I can record the video to a AVI file now. However, I cannot record the audio although I can hear it while recording. There is no sound when I play back the AVI. Any solution for that?

You don't say which O/S you're using. If you are in 98SE, the easiest way is to capture in hardware MJPEG, which will give results far superior to what you need to burn a VCD, with no hassle, mo Huffyuv, no YUY2. straight from the MJPEG (edited) to the MPEG-1. I've done 55 min VCDs like that, no problem, quality good.

Thank you for replying. I am also using Win98. Which s/w do u use for capturing to mjpeg? And what s/w do u use to convert it to mpeg?

I ise the Matrox 1.52 for MJPEG capturing, along with AVI_IO for the actual capturing.

I then edit with MSPro 6.5 and convert to VCD/SVCD/DVD using the DVD plug-in, enhanced with Movie Factory.
