  • AVI_IO DiVX

I want to use AVI_IO to capture to DiVX, but it wont letme use anything but PCM audio. I cant capture with virtualDUB because it drops frames. is there anyway to make it use MP3

If I am correct, capturing to MP3 would just increase the dropped frames. It takes considerable CPU cycles to compress the audio to MP3 compared to PCM audio. I don't think, even as great a program as AVI IO is, it would be able to do this witout dropping frames as well. I could be wrong.

Agree with Sciascia, the CPU takes power to compress audio and if one captures with MJPEG or MPEG, the CPU takes extra power to compress the video, too (even with the Matrox hardware MJPEG the CPU is affected)
I suggest to capture the audio in non compressed form (PCM). Edit the video with uncompressed PCM audio.
Using the VirtualDub you can compress the audio with the MPEG Layer-3 (MP3) audio codec.
Don't forget, neither Premiere 5.1 nor the Ulead MSP6 supports MP3 audio to be edited.

I am having problems with playing DivX with AVI_IO. An error msg: "the audio device is already in use" pops up. The Audio of the DivX file is in mp3 format, I'd guess that could possibly have something to do with it.
