  • More DVxpore-based cards other than RT2000 and DV500...

    What do you guys think of this?
    <HREF>www.provideo.com.tw/PV251.htm</HREF>

    The PV251, which is not available yet in Canada, was quoted by a sales rep as being $250USD.

    Of course there's no realtime, but it's a good compromise as it does DV and MPEG-2.

    The DV500 and RT2000 use the DVxpress-MX25 chip which is a lot more advanced than the DVxplore. Apart from only having single stream support and therfore not being able to do realtime transitions, the DVexplore has a simpler MPEG2 encoder (its motion tracking is not as advanced).

    In short DVxplore based cards will be a cheap alternative for people using only DV or not needing all the extras and high quality output (eg. prepareing clips for the web). But for serious editing the DVxpress it a lot better.

      I believe there is another major difference;

      The DVxplore is capable of MPEG-2 at 2-10 mbits VBR only. No CBR.

      The DVxpressMX25 caps out at 25 mbits with a choice of VBR or CBR, giving the potential for much higher quality.

      Of course there is also the DVxpressMX50....

        Thanks for the clarification, guys. It seemed too good to be true.

        DVexpressMX50?? Oh man, don't give me more hardware to dream about!
