  • New Codec Bink (from Smacker Co.)

    "Better than mpeg2"...hmmm

It says it uses YUV. Does that mean we can capture (recompress) with this codec?

I'm too lazy to try it out myself, so please post your results if you get a chance to...

This codec is not new (as far as I can tell), and doesn't look like it's progress past RC stage when I downloaded it months ago.

It's aimed at playback from CD-ROM, a bit like the original 256colour Smacker codec. Games developers use it a lot apparently.

It is also not an 'open' codec so will not show up in Prem, MSP etc..

You can however compile your movie into a standalone .exe which is good for distribution.
