  • Mpeg to DV

Does anyone know how I can convert my HI8 tapes to DV ?
I have a matrox marvel G200 and am looking to get a DVraptor in the next few weeks and I have MSP6.
If I capture my HI8 tapes with the marvel can I send these files stright to the DV camera from MSP6 or do I have to convert them to DV, if so does the fact that Mpeg is captured at 704x576 and DV is 720 x 576 make a differnce

    Thanks in advance

Render the files out using the DV .avi codec at 720x480 and they should go to the cam as easily as any other DV file on the disk, albeit with a bit less quality than a "natural" DV file.

When I first read your post it didn't make any sense to me. I couldn't understand why you wouldn't simply re-record your Hi8 tapes on your DV camcorder. This would seem to be a lot more efficient than rendering files after they had been captured with the Marvel. Then I realized that you live in the UK. Therefore, you're probably saddled with one of those screwed up European version camcorders that don't have an analog input. Is this the case?

Of course, a Digital8 camcorder would be able to supply a digital signal directly from your analog Hi8 tapes.

Yes I have a TRV11 which has no analog in, in fact it has no digital in either but it can be enabled. Anyone know if its possible to enable the analog in as well as this would solve all my problems

        Thanks Again

Sounds like a question for someone on your side of the pond to answer...
