"The File May Be Copy-Protected" Message In Media Studio 6 Pro

Hallo !

When I try to create/export a project from Ulead Media Studio Pro 6 I get this message: The File May Be Copy-Protected. What the h_ll is that suppose to mean = ( ? I’ve started to use Ulead instead of Premiere because it worked better with my Marvel G400 card, and it sure has…it’s been working like a dream in fact…till now. It doesn’t matter which codec I select, I receive this stupid message anyway.

My Ulead32.ini file looks like this (the vital parts, anymay):

Wow,

ulead has implimented macrovision also?

If you are getting this from "create video file", it wouldn't be coming from our macrovision implimentation as we only care about what's going out, not what's going to be rendered.

I'll ask my contact at Ulead on Tuesday and see what the story is behind this.

All I can suggest is to display your timeline in 1 frame mode and look to see if you have a corrupted frames. If you do, cut them out and "create" again.

What…! Macrovision…!

That sounds very strange, because I could create files without any trouble before (but then again, computers never stops to surprise me). I would be very happy if you could talk to your contact at Ulead about this.

Oh, and this about corrupted frames. It doesn’t matter if I just create one tiny little clip at the timeline or have the thing smacked with material, is still get the Copy-Protection message…but I will look for corrupted frames (although I don’t exactly knows what I’m looking for).

I'm sorry but the message I receive is NOT: This file may be COPY-PROTECTED, but: This File May Be WRITE-PROTECTED. Maybe now you know what the hell is going on.

I'm so sorry for this. I've been working like a maniac the last couple of days and that's starting to get to me.

Try to switch OFF the line:
PlayDll1=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll
(by setting a ; before the line)
If it solves your problem, then you can remove this line.
The presence of this line causes something like this "...multiple file error...".

The "multiple playback error" is fixed with Fred's suggestion.

The "file protected error" is something I only see in MS Word where you are not allowed to modify the file. If this is the case, it sounds like your file is read only for some reason. Check the properties of this file and make sure that you don't have it as "read only".

I don't know if this would help but ulead has an update patch for MSPro 6 found here

Actually I solved this problem late last night. I’m not sure how though ; ) I just tried other save locations at my hard drive. First I just tried to save directly under C:, and that worked…!? And now I can save where I want, sound strange…doesn’t it ?

Well, well…I’m just glad that my Media Studio works again. This software simply ROCKS, why dose everybody talk about Premiere all the time…when this program is MUCH better…I guess this is my little secret ; )

Premiere just confuses the crap out of me. For some reason the interface in MSP is much more intuitive. This is also great because apparently Premiere doesn't work very well with the Matrox products.

Here's a tip for your ulead32.ini.

I know the official Ulead site and many tip lists say to do these for the Marvel/RR's;

RenderAudio=1
PlayDll1=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll

This deactivates OpenDML and forces audio to be rendered to make MSPro6 compatable with the MatroxCutListPlugin: MCLPlugin.dll. The rub is no OpenDML support.

The following works better as it allows you to keep OpenDML support and still have cutlist:

Instead of making MSPro6 compatable with the MCLPlugin.dll you just eliminate the plugin by commenting it out. This lets MSPro6 use its internal cutlist feature. Putting zeros on the other two entries turns them off and turns OpenDML back on.

This may be appearing as an official alternative on Uleads site.
