Howdo VCR tuners compare to RR-G or marvel Tuners?

I was wondering if a cheap vcr tuner might make my tv quality better on my computer. For those who have this set-up, is a cheap vcr tuner better than the one on the RR-G? I figure interference problems I experienced with RR-G (when it worked...) would be greatly diminished using an external tuner. And since my RR-G tuner won't cooperate, plugging a vcr into the line in might be a good workaround anyway.

Why use a cheap VCR? Get a good one you can use for recording your edits. I've been using JVC's, but not the cheap ones
