DivX output with DVDMax

having another problem
no matter what I do, I can't get any DivX movie I created to output through DVDmax.
any other codec works perfectly. I am using DeCSS descrambler program to copy the VOB files to my computer, then use Flask to create an AVI. I have tried with both the fast and low motion codecs, different bit rates,different audio compression, etc. but nothing works!!
The funny thing is about a week ago I tested Flask with the fox logo I ripped from the Full Monty CD and that outputs perfectly.
I even re-installed the drivers!
what am I doing wrong??

Hello Intomisery,

I have encountered the same problem. After some testing I found out that DVDMax apparently can't handle horizontal resolutions above 704.
720*576 didn't work, but when I cropped the avi to 704*576 it played well through DVDMax.

but will I get the entire image and retain picture quality if I scale down to 704 rather than crop 16 pixels?

actually, you could even get a better image quality at 704 or 640, since it needs a lower bitrate to retain the same image quality as with 720 movies. SO if ou use the same bitrate for 704 or 640 movies, the quality of those could even be better than the 720 movies

The reason why it doesn't work is listed on my G400 Win2k driver bug page (linked on the main page of Murc);

It's a codec problem, and in the latest flask you can't even create 720 horizontal pixel DivX movies any more. The horizontal pixel number has to be devidable by 32 (and if you do that, it will play perfectly through DVDMax).

but it is my understanding that you are compression the image. where there once existed 720 pixels, now exists 640 which means that colours have to be anti-aliased and accounted for, decreasing overall quality compared to the original

but if you use the same bitrate for 640, the quality will relatively be much better, since the is less image area to be covered by the same amount of bits (in the bitrate). And 720 is not a valid DivX resolution I think (flask only let you chose a multiple of 32, and DVDMax only outputs movies which are multiples of 32)
