My local computer shop just started getting in their AMD Thunderbirds and Intel CeleronII's. Most are not the top end stuff so I tried to find as much common ground as possible;
Tbird 700mhz SktA: $195 USD
Tbird 650mhz Skta: $183 USD
PIII 700mhz Slot1: $269 USD
PIII 700mhz FCPGA: $268 USD
C-II 633mhz FCPGA: $189 USD (closest they had)
Note that the AMD Thunderbird, their topline chip, is cheaper than the equivalent CeleronII. Sheesh....
This dealer says he is already seeing a move towards AMD in his sales and he expects the Duron to accelerate it.
If this kind of pricing holds up Intel is in for a bad summer.
