  • ULEAD: Shining Review for DVD WORKSHOP Product

From the June issue of EMedia Magazine, author Jan Ozer:

"Brilliantly conceived and executed, DVD Workshop incorporates the best ideas from the video-editing and DVD authoring worlds into a comprehensive, end-to-end solution that surpasses DVDit! on almost every front."

"It's a product that will upset the balance of power in the DVD authoring market..."

"Over time, the market (DVD authoring) has evolved into three clear segments."

"At the top are the professional programs like Sonic Scenarist, which provide complete access to all DVD features."

"Until DVD Workshop came along, the mid-range market, for corporate or event photographers, was primarily owned by Sonic's DVDit!"

"DVD Workshop borrows most of its design bones from Ulead's VideoStudio 6.0, which is a good thing."

"A large capture/edit/preview window dominates the program with tabs on top that work you through the four stages of DVD creation, capture, edit, menu creation, and burning (Finish)."

"...DVD Workshop's menu creation tools are the best we've seen to date..."

"We had two DVD recorders to test, Pioneer's hot new DVR-A04 drive and Vivastar's RS-111 DVD-RAM/DVD-R drive (aka Panasonic's LF-D311 'DVDburner,' reviewed by Stephen Clark in April 2002), and lots of Memorex DVD-R discs."

"Workshop burned perfectly to both drives, and all test DVDs worked perfectly in all tested players."

"Since all of our projects were short, we encoded all videos at high quality, which looked perfect during playback."

"Still images also looked good, and audio sounded as good as the unencoded original."

"Ulead has...launched what should be a category leader."

The above review is not yet on the EMedia Magazine Web site, but I bet it will be soon:

I used DVD Workshop to burn 4 more DVD-R disc copies today using my Panasonic LF-D311.

Each copy features a 20-minute video I produced for the City of Boise Public Works Department.

I've carefully reviewed all four discs and they play *flawlessly* in my DVD player, a GE 1106P-B.

I'm now using Sony brand DVD discs exclusively and they're amazing.

Not one has failed me yet.

I would be interested to see if these Sony-brand discs would play *glitch-free* in your Zenith DVD player, Wally.

I think they truly are better than the Apple brand discs.

So while I used to suspect there was little difference between brands, I have changed my mind on that topic and I am now of the opinion that the Sony brand DVD-R discs really are superior to the competition.

I almost picked up a pack of TDK brand discs, which DV MAGAZINE claims are as good as the Sony DVD-Rs.

But they were more expensive so I chose to stick with the Sonys, which were on sale.

I'm pleased with this new video I've produced to the point where I'm probably going to submit it to Ulead's Video Showcase:

If anybody else plans to submit, you'd better hurry as time is running out.
