  • Differences with G400DVD vs. Stationary DVD-player

    Hi Folks

I was thinking the other day while watching DVD's on my TV using the G400. I had noticed some time ago that the MPEG compression is showing thru quite much. Sometimes the graininess in the movie is pretty appearant, not graininess really but non movingareas in the background often display a "freezed" look since the MPEG information is not updated for non-moving objects. After adjusting brightness/contrast settings on both TV and Comp. the effects faded somewhat but still remained to a lesser degree.

I was just wondering if the differences between a stationary DVD (quality output) and the G400 is big? Do stationary DVD-players output a higher quality image than the G400 - since I have a 32" Widescreen flaws become quite appearent.

    Just curious

The differences are that settop DVD playrs do it all in hardware while with a computer things like swapfile size, boot drive speed and the CPU come into play.

    What are your system specs?

      Thanx Dr. Mordrid

However, its only the quality of the picture I am concerned about - the flow is perfect, anyway for the record:

      Pentium !!! 450@525MHz
      128 MB Ram
      6.4 GB HDD
      Matrox G400 MAX 32MB DH
      ASUS P3C-2000
      Aopen 6x/32x DVD

      JVC WH3 32" TV with S-Video cable-connection...

      Anything else?

      Regards Kristian
