I've decided to finally hang up my UT fire button for a while and try to get this stack of VHS cassettes into some manageable form before they disintegrate.
I have Avi_io as it seems to be the capture proggie of choice, BUT I was getting no sound at all and tearing out what little hair I have left trying to figure this one out. So onto searching the forums but as you all probably know (I didn't) the search function only returns very new results and I needed to go back a while.
So, I went back to the beginning, all 280 pages or so and started to browse, looking at almost every thread with G400 and RRG in the title. At page number 225 I found the answer:
