  • Is RRG what I want??

I have benn using a G400MAX for some time. Now I want to add video capture to my system.
I have read the back posts, and most of the posts addressing this subject are several months old, and end up as squabbling over drivers, etc.

1)It is my understanding the RRG does not need an IRQ, only a PCI slot. Yes or no??

2)I am using (very happily) the 5.50 Beta drivers for the G400MAX. Will these drivers work with the RRG??

3)What RRG driver set is the current one, assuming the drivers that come with it are not current?? Will these work with the 5.50 Beta MGA drivers, or are all drivers changed/updated??

4)Is there another card/solution that would be better?? ie. compatible. The Matrox web site does not list the RRG as a product, but it does come up under Retail Prices.

Thanks to anyone who would help me with this. I want a Matrox video capture device, if possible, to help with incompatiblity....I hope.

I love the way my G400MAX works now, just don't want to foul it up if the RRG won't hook up and go. Thanks.

Ok then, Thanks for the feedback ;-)

I will get one, as I have found the RRG on Matrox site under Upgrades

    Drivers are listed there, also.

      JWilliams:
      1) It only needs a PCI slot for powering the unit. Keep in mind on Abit motherboards, there is a frequent problem with power supplies and the RRG. I would recommend against using a RRG with an Abit motherboard (actually, I just recommend no Abit motherboards)
No idea about the drivers as I have a Marvel G200
As for a "better" solution, it's all subjective. If your system is fast enough, and you have no problem with 640x480 captures, you may end up liking a WinTV PCI, it's cheaper and better suited to using software compressors. (I recommend a system at least 600mhz for this though)
I used a WinTV with a G200 for a while, and never ran into a problem. (in fact, driver support is a good deal better for WinTVs than the RRG/Marvel)

Thank you very much for responding, Walrus!!

No, my MB is a MSI 6167, and the PS is a PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool ATX 425.

I ordered one Saturday night, and got a 30 GB HDD today to save files to. Wish me luck!

Actually, I have nothing but good luck with Matrox so far, so I go into the RRG with high hopes!

Thanks again for your response, I have read many of your posts, and you seem to have a good handle on these things.

        Peace, love, and Matrox!
