Hi All,
I've been running on an install of WinME that I made at least a year and a half ago on: Gigabyte mobo, VIA chipset, PIII-1gig, 256mb, two 10gig WD for system and a slave, and a Promise card running two 40gig WD masters and two 30gig WD slaves. My video is all in and out through a SIIG IEEE-1394 card to either my Sony TRV-9000, or my Sony DVMC-DA2.
Prior to that last install, I'd been a faithful believer in the church of doing a fresh install every few months, having come up through the path of using a Matrox Rainbow Runner/MSP on Win98, then 98SE. When I switched over to DV/MSP, I started with 98SE, then switched to WinME, and I haven't re-installed it but once.
Things are a bit "piled up" on this system after all this time, and I thoguht it might be worth going to either XP or 2000, but I hesitate because of ignorance about either OS.
Things that I'd appreciate comments about are compatibility issues for IEEE-1394 and MSP6.5; PITA (pain in the ass) issues with swapping drives, video boards, Promise boards, etc., once either system is up and running; and install times for either OS. Also what patches & versions for XP are advised, and what SP level should 2000 be at?
TIA
Jeff B
