  • G400 Marvel: Problems with audio

    hi there,
since a few days i own a matrox marvel g400 tv
out. the delivered software "avid cinema" for
video capturing doesn't work due to a problem
with audio. the system says: "...selected audio
input is used by another program ..." but there's
    no other program running ?!
when i try to grab video with other programs
(avi_io or premiere) there are no problems with
video but there's always no audio recorded ... grrrrrrrr

    my configuration:

    asus board cubx/256 mb
    matrox ide hdd 30 GB
    sound: sb pc128

    anyone any ideas ?!

    thanx in advance, dukat.

1.Check your Multimedia settings in Control Panel and see what your default recording and playback devices are. Make sure that it is set to your present SC.

2.Did you connect the audio cables from the Break out box correctly?

3.Make sure that you have no programs loading at startup that would "grab" your SC.(Such as a voice Modem program or something silly like that)

4.Check the settings of PC-VCR for audio and make sure that they are correct.

5.Also make sure that there are no conflicts between HW in Device Manager.

6.Make a recording of just audio with sound recorder or whatever audio SW you may have installed. If this works than it is probably a SW configuration problem. If it does not work, then it is either HW or SW.

7.If all of this fails then try completely removing your SC and re-installing with the latest drivers.

I hope that one of these tips help. There isn't a lot to setting up these cards, but when you sit there and mess with them for a couple of hours, it easy to overlook a small thing.

Point 2. in the above post is tricky. If the G400 connects like the G200, the audio connections to the break-out box from the sound card are counter-intuitive. On the G200, the audio-in cable connects to line-out jack on the sound card, and audio-out connects to line-in... Go figure! Check the sound card connection diagram in your G400 manual carefully.
