  • Hauppauge drivers/vidcap

I've finally made the break from Win9x and Matrox, to a WinXP system with a Hauppauge WinTV theater for analog capture. What do other Hauppauge users recommend for drivers and vicap tools?

The WinTV comes with a choice of VFW and WDM drivers, and there is at least one other WDM driver available on the net, at http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/. What drivers are other people using?

Everything I've done up to now (with Matrox hardware) has used VFW - I believe that one advantage of WDM is that there's no longer a limiting maximum file-size. Is that right? What other benefits are there to WDM?

How about vidcap utilities? I've been using AVI_IO, but if WDM really does remove the 2G filesize limit, do I need AVI_IO any more? What are other people using for capture?

I'm using the latest Hauppauge VFW drivers in Win2k, as the hauppauge WDM drivers don't allow full-res captures. There is NO filesize limit with the VFW drivers, I'm usually capturing ~60MB HuffYUV avis here with VirtualDub and the VFW driver. You need a NTFS partition, though.
