    Not all things labeled MPEG are codecs or anything like them.

    I think the MPEG-5 and MPEG-6 designations were internal projects that never saw the light of day or evolved into something else. What is often referred to as MPEG-5 is actually MPEG-2 5.1, a multichannel audio format used on DVD players.

    With that out of the way here's another one to get you wondering. The latest MPEG project is MPEG-21, a proposed multimedia content delivery standard to be tied heavily into MPEG-4 and MPEG-7. This one adds copy protection that in my mind are aimed at DivX;
