  • Morgan + W2000 + Matrox codec replacement

    Hi to all

Urgent help wanted - Matrox Marvel G400 TV is conviced that its owner does not know what he is doing!

Because of hassles with frame jitters on my Marvel G400-TV while using the Matrox Mjpeg codec, I am currently forced to convert the captured avi files to Morgan (1.5) before I can output any non-jittery material from MSP6 or anywhere else for that matter) - Time required for a 90 minute project conversion is 3 hours using 704x576 @25 frames per second!

So in order to cut down on the conversion time, I have tried Uwes' system.ini mod suggested on this forum to force Morgan to decode all files with the dmb1 fourcc code in its header (captured using Matrox codec). Now, W2000 uses the registry for these settings and I have been successful in hacking the registry and actually getting Morgan to decode those files capture with Matrox and therefore I do not have to convert at all!

All very nice you say!. Only problem is my Marvel now thinks I am bonkers to try and output the contents of those files, and simply refuses to do so - ie - no output from my BOB!

From the above,it would seem that the only workable sollution till new drivers for W2000 come along, would be to modify the headers of Matrox captured avi files to replace the dmb1(Matrox)-tag with the mjpg(Morgan)-tag and thereby convince Marvel that I know what it is I am trying to do!

Can somebody suggest a way to do that without screwing up the avi file as I am currently managing to do?

    Hi Lawrence,

Have you tried downloading more recent drivers for the Marvel ? With the initial release of the G400-TV I experienced some jittering under certain circumstances, especially with fast moving video. This is supposed to have been fixed with later drivers (and I trashed the footage that I used for the first test so I haven't run comparitives recently).

The latest drivers are available both from the Matrox site via the "support" link, or from the independent Matroxusers site (www.murc.ws)

If you do download some newer drivers I'd stick with Video Tools ver. 1.52 and not the newer 1.54. The YUY2 mode is broken in 1.54.

Thanks for the interest guys - but I am running W2000 with the latest beta(sic) drivers from the Matrox forum dated 28/4/2000

        Serves me right I suppose?

The jittering I am refering to is actually a situation where, if you would freeze an avi while playing, you will find that if you slowly step through the avi using frame advance, you would be able to see frames are displaced relative to each other vertically by about 3? lines - the result being that the whole display, when an avi is played gives one an idea of "frame hopping" and it looks like the whole picture is out of focus

I have chased this up at Matrox under that title and my user "LvR" with the final outcome being - "known problem, and sollution will be in new drivers"

I always get the situation, no matter the resolution/quality setting when I work with the Matrox codec - but get rocksteady displays once converted to Morgan !

        Once again thanks for interest
