  • Corrupt capture with huffyuv

I am trying to see if my PC would grab full screen video to see if it worth me buying a DVD writer. If I use huffyuv the bottom of the screen has a strange horizontal line, below the switching line (captured off vhs). I know I could crop the video after but this will add a lot of time to the render.

    I'm using win 98se.
    amd 1600xp

This is normal and it's got nothing to do with Huffy.

You will always get this capturing from a VHS source. Normally it is not seen on the TV due to the TV's overscan.

If I've misunderstood what you are saying then maybe you could post a screen shot? Load your AVI into VirtualDub and save frame as BMP.

It isn't the normal switching line. Below that is a yellow bar (look like a bar code!) You can't see it on a T.V but it looks well naff on a pc monitor!

That is normal as well, it is the VITS (vertical interval test signal), if you had a waveform monitor that has line select you can scroll down there and see a few test patterns. They are for the TV stations to align their equipment, but are hardly if ever used anymore.

Just crop it if you are really worried about it being displayed on your PC monitor. Of course that is same thing as a dub, so the active video will be worse from generation loss.

Virtualdub allows you to define a custom capture framesize - if you use that feature and then also use Virtualdubs' capture cropping option, you should be able to do a clean capture.

You need horsepower though, so see if it will do the trick for you.
