  • question about passwords

When I registered for this user forum I chose a specific password and entered it. When my registration was processed, the password came up as a random series of upper and lower case letters and numbers. The only resemblance it showed to the password I selected was the number of digits. It isn't likely that I transposed letters in my typing as the numbers and letters in the password I was shown aren't even close to the word I typed. Anyway, I have been using this "password" for over a year with no problems. Could the miscreants who hacked our site discern my "real" password from this seemingly random string I was assigned and have been using?

Is this "password substitution" normal for the site or did I just happen to run into some wierd glitch?

    Just wondering

    Kevin

P.S. The password I originally selected does not give me any access to this site.

This can't be, you can't choose a password when you register. You are given one and it is send to the email address that you entered. After that you can change it in the profile. If you enter a different email address again a random password is send to you. It's a security issue.

Gotcha. It makes sense now. Obviously I misunderstood when I registered. When I typed in my chosen password it just got spit out and I was assigned a different one.

      Thanks for the clarify.
