  • More MSP6 scratchpad problems

    Just upgraded to Ulead Mediastudio Pro 6 and I have still problems with the scratch pad and the 1GB limit. gives error:
    "Unable to play the video file using MCI commands. MCI reported MMSYSTEM296
    The file cannot be played on the specific MCI device. The file may be corrupt, or not in the correct format"

    What specificaly do I need to do, cause I am getting tired of this story

    System:
    PII 400MHz
    128MB RAM
    8GB + 20 GB HD
    G400MAX+RR-G
    WIN98SE
    Windows Media Player 6.4.07.1112

    So the solution provided in the FAQ of Ulead does not work!!!

    What 1 gig limit?

    I just put a 1.7 gig clip on Va, doubleclicked it and it played fine in the Source window. Stopped it, scrubbed to the end and it played fine there too. Scrubbed back to the beginning and it played there too.

    From the error it sounds more like either your Windows installation has problems with the MCI drivers or you've edited ulead32.ini more than you needed to. The entries required for Marvel/RR-G compatability have evolved and simplified over time.

    Instead of using the fix on Ulead sites edit your entries to look like this:

    [HardwareACC]
    NotSaveOpenDML=0

    [Playback]
    RenderAudio=0
    ;PlayDll5=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll

    (the exact enumeration of the PlayDll call may vary from 1 on up. Yours may be PlayDll1= or something else.)

    The old method worked by disabling MSPro6's OpenDML support to make it compatable with Matrox's cutlist driver (MCLPlugin.dll). This way you instead disable the call to MCLPlugin.dll itself. Then MSPro's own cutlist takes over and you get to keep OpenDML.

    Also, if you have added this entry;

    [HardwareAcc]
    AviPlayEngineMCI=1

    remove it and see how things go.

        I have found this works great when using the MATROX MJPEG codec. However when using the Morgan CODEC there is no TV OUT.I am using MediaStudio Pro 6 and RR.

        By reinserting:
        PlayDll1=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll
        playback at times "jumps" about 40 seconds ahead on the video but not the audio.

        [HardwareACC]
        DisableAcc1=0
        ;RecompressWhenScrubbing=1
        DirectAccessDVAudio=1
        NotSaveOpenDML=0
        EnableDVScrub=1
        RecompDVScrub=1
        AviPlayEngineMCI=1
        HwCodecID=dmb1
        ;AlwaysKeepLastFrame=1

        [Playback]
        ;PlayDll1=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll
        PlayDll7=U32mpb.dll
        PlayDll8=U32mpbm.dll
        PlayDll9=Upbplug2.dll
        RenderAudio=1

          Is it possible to enable the TV Out using the Morgan CODEC as opposed to the MATROX?

          I have played with the above options and only enabling the
          PlayDll5=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll
          turns on the TV OUT, but does not allow viewing over 2GB in the scratch pad.
          Assistance much apreciated

          Thanks....

            Cookie,
            why to use the Morgan, which is a software MJPEG codec?
            The Matrox MJPEG uses the faster hardware compression/decompression.
            The Morgan codec is fine, but I ran into a lot of problems, using it.
            I found very difficult to edit files compressed with the Morgan MJPEG.
            TV-Out in Morgan is also a problem.
            BTW, the:
            PlayDll5=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll
            use to produce an error, when rendering, something like: "...multiple file error..."

              Thanks Fred. I was using the Morgan CODEC based on the info in the "MJPEG-Software-Codec Guide authored by Uew Roeder, which indicated the Morgan produced a higher quality AVI file. My objective is to create a tape. I have been trying to determine if it is better to capture to AVI files using AVI_IO with one of the MJPEG CODECS, edit with MSP 6 and save to tape - or Capture YUY2 with the Huffuv CODEC , edit and save as MPEG and then send to tape.

              Thanks.....

                OK a blast from the past, but I found the fix for this. I was just posting a question and found a link to the "mmsys296.exe " on the MSoft website. Fixed it right up and I am quite happy. I removed all of my MCI devices and then re-installed IE 5.5 and edited the crud out of my ulead32.ini. It will work with the above post, but I know for a fact that it will work with AVIPlayEngineMCI=1 and that was the only fix fr it (removing it). So the little file worked great. Hope this helps someone.
