I think my city MIS Division will be installing it for next Thursday's 'Boise state of the city' speech by our mayor.

We're going to attempt a live Webcast.

    I've never tried that before.

We're going to use my department's DCR-VX1000 and feed the Firewire cable into a laptop.

    It probably won't work.

Here's the city Web site if you want to watch our victimization next Thursday:

TIP for everyone hesitant on upgrading to Windows media 9!!!

If you download a video compressed with the new codec, media player 8 will automatically download the codec from Microsoft and playback the clip without problems

That at least saves the aggravation of installing a whole new bloated player.

Do you know of such a clip, and where?

We successfully broadcast our first City of Boise, Idaho live event using the World Wide Web this morning.

(Our Mayor's State of the City address.)

But we used an older version of Windows Media.

          Still... wow.

          History in the making.

Got a direct link into one of these new streams?

I've yet to see a streaming media worth watching quality wise.

I've lots of short clips of clever/cute/funny things but the quality sucks -- good for a laugh though and small enough to be Emailed.

The folks in our MIS Division will have the file up on the city's Web site sometime between now and Saturday.

Actually, the image quality of compressed Web video is pretty crummy and in this case I was forced to the back of a huge auditorium to do the live camera work/taping.

So they asked me to do what I hate... switch on the digital zoom.

As a result, there was a small degree of pixelization.

Still, it was an interesting learning experience.

Even simple tools such as Firewire and consumer/prosumer grade cameras can be very powerful live broadcast tools... increasingly so as broadband matures.

                Sorry for the delay Brian,

Download this clip then try to play it back, Windows media will automatically download the new codec and play it instantly.

After the codec was downloaded I found 2 new files in my windows\system directory i.e. wmv9dmod.dll (Windows Media Video 9 Decoder) and wma9dmod.dll (Windows Media Audio 9 Decoder). I wonder if anything else was added?
