    Duh...

    I don't know why I didn't do this in the first place, but I did a Search in the hardware forum here at MURC and found plenty of posts pertaining to the Asus A7S333 board. Most don't seem to be as negative as the ones at the other forum (or yours, K6) but maybe I should think twice before I try this particular Asus board. I guess I'm just familiar with Asus boards, but I suppose I shouldn't be blinded by loyalty.

      How about this one... the MSI 745 Ultra is much better that the Asus A7S333.

      If you check around on the forum you will find that at least 4x as many have them now (thx to me

      Tho you may have a hard time finding them as MSI has sold out most already (very popular and headache free) and are now ramping up to the SiS746/963 chipsets MB's (I will be getting one that's for sure

        I'm sure as hell planning on getting a few MSI SiS 746/963 boards as soon as they come out. That 1066 mb/s nb/sb pipeline is no small reason for this.

        Greebe: you heard any timelines on when MSI will be streeting those things?

          Greebe, I've seen many of your posts regarding this motherboard. Do you own shares in Microstar?

          Is there really such a board as the MSI 745 Ultra-E which has the onboard "optional" 1394 ports? I don't see it listed anywhere except at the Microstar site. I was wondering whether or not these ports would be suitable for input and output of DV. What chipset would these 1394 ports be using? If suitable, this could save having to buy a separate firewire card for video editing purposes.

            Assuming you could find it, they would be using the onboard capability of the SIS chipset....

            As for SIS746, the only board I've seen pics of as of yet is the Aopen AK76 in the Aopen forum of www.ocworkbench.com

              @Partick:
              I have an Asus CUSL2-C (i-815 based, predecessor of TUSL2-C, basically the same board but doesn't support Tualatin) and it's rock solid with a Marvel G200 under Windows 2000 (after disabling busmastering in powerdesk). I can capture full-frame Huffyuv for hours and hours without a single drop with a Celeron 900. It has "endless" PCI bandwith!

                Patrick, I only care to report the truth... if it works this well then spread the word.

                  Greebe, any experience with or feedback on my earlier questions regarding the MSI 745 Ultra-E board?

                  Flying dutchman, good to hear that your CUSL2-C works well with the Marvel G200. I've been very happy with the way the TUSL2-C has worked with DV capture and editing.

                      I couldn't find it for sale in the US, although you can get it at the Akiba market....

                        Hi Folks,

                        I'm making a list of all the motherboards mentioned in this thread. Perhaps I get one of each.... (very confusing)

                        Regards,
