Doc, or anybody there, could you help, please?
I just downloaded the Tsunami beta 12 and the translator. It seemed to vork excellent with MJPEG files captured with the PC-VCR.
It works fine with YUY2 files captured with Ulead Video Capture (352x288PAL)
Now the problem:
Downloaded the latest AVI_IO trial v3.0 (not a question of $25 )
Now the YUY2 AND MJPEG files created (only) with the AVI_IO produces black screen/no audio in Tsunami.
They play well as captured-.AVI files with, ie. the MS-MP.
I'd like to mention that bbMPEG works well with them, all of them.
BTW, I couldn't see any difference BW the bbMPEG- vs. Tsunami-created MPEG1.
You've recommended the Tsunami as excellent.
Did you experience the errors as above? Or should I continue with the bbMPEG.
I own an older Panasonic too, the MPEG1 files created looks fine but produces an error in the "BitrateViewer" program. The other MPEG1s loads ok to the "BrV".

The files I encoded with Tsunami b12 were captured with a previous version of AVI_IO and I just got version 3.0 of it this afternoon. Sure enough I see the same thing, but now have a fuller picture of the extent of the problem.
I'm getting black video when encoding AVI_IO Marvel captures with the Tsunami b12 encoder. As noted above this wasn't the case with the previous AVI_IO release, so something changed.
The MSPro6 Ligos Go-Motion, Ligos Premiere plugin, bbMPEG and Panasonic encoders don't show this effect. Go figure.
I just posted a note to Markus informing him of the problem.
As for the quality I've had excellent quality with previous versions of AVI_IO and the new Tsunami b12 encoder. The difference with the new version is higher compliance with the VCD/SVCD standards, better muxing and a quality improvement.
I just load the VCD or SVCD presets and then set the quality to Super-High Quality mode in the Settings page. I usually capture VCD's at 352x240 or 352x480 as YUY2's. I capture SVCD at 352x480 or 704x480 as YUY2's. With both I use HuffYUV to compress them during the capture. This doesn't degrade the quality, it juat makes them 50% smaller. The exact rez I use depends if the subject matter is natural video or video containing graphics.

Thanks, Doc.
What should we do without this Forum and the quick and expert help?
Yes, the prev. AVI_IO worked well for me too.
Hope that the new, v3.0 will be soon corrected.

Hopefully not too much off-topic...
If I understood correctly, the beta12 of Tsunami, should make it perfectly possible to encode interlaced captures. For my first SVCD tests I captured Hi8-footage at full res (704x576, interlaced) at the highest quality setting, using the PC-VCR (Marvel400).
In the Tsunami Encoder I load the SuperVideoCD PAL template, which still allows setting of the 'interlaced' checkboxes in the 'video' settings and in the 'advanced' settings.
What combination of settings should I use to obtain successful encoding to PAL-SVCD, of this interlaced capture ?
So far I did one test, which did not give the expected result (interlaced checked in the video settings, interlaced checked in the advanced settings with odd field first, and de-interlace not checked).
I used Nero5 to burn the SVCD on a CD-RW, which was accepted by my Pioneer-525 and recognised as 'VCD' (I have no idea if it is supposed to display 'SVCD'). The movie played well, but there were clearly artefacts vissible, originating from the interlaced character of the capture.AMD-K6-2-300, EPOX-58MVP3C-M,
