  • Amazing Find....MJPEG's and Premiere!!!

Well - its amazing to me!!!...after 3 years of using the RRG and my G200 under win98 and always having monitor update problems - Ive found the solution - forgive me if I've missed a previous posting on this subject but I'm so excited I've gotta tell you guys.

You know how you have monitor probs in Premiere when you open MJPEGs using the Marvel or RRG card's Zoran encoder.....well I used to (until today) have to open a short snip MJPEG file without audio in Windows Media Player to allow me to view points (scrub) of MJPEG's in the clip or Monitor Windows. I seem to recall you get a green screen in Prem5 and postings to that effect on the Prem BBS related to Prem5 back in 1998.

If you didnt do this then Prem would take forever to update the files and play back the changes - (even on a PIII800+256MB+RAIDFT66). When you wanted to view the file in the Monitor Window - you had to close this Window Media Player Fle and then click on the timeline and away you'd go - after a 5 second wait of course....

Well...I just opened Virtual Dub with a the same short MJPEG (no audio) file and there is no delay - the MJPEG file and scrubbing works instantly!!!...This is a major relief after all these years and the fact that I am now moving over to XP (not yet) and found out that my MJPG HW codec is still intact!!!...hehehe

    yippppeee!!!!!

If this has helped anyone - let me know!!

If you know why - also let me know.

I have a Marvel G400 TV, I would like to suggest another trick: it works very well for me.
Just open AVI_IO, do not load any avi file, just let it open. You can also iconize it.
Then, open Premiere. Load your project. Everything will work smoothly, also transitions on-the-fly (rendering on screen and from RAM) and also manually by pressing ALT while scrubbing the timeline. You can also load your clip in the monitor window.

The only thing that doesn't work with Marvel is the smooth play from timeline (but this is an unresolvable limit with Marvel)
    Bye

premiere looks in system.ini file for the HW codec to see if it is enable or not

besides the method used above, u can do this :

Start - Run - type "msconfig", hit Enter - in System.ini tab scroll to "drivers32" and in there (hit the +) u can disable the "VIDC.dmb1=RRIcm.dll" option.

Without rebooting (even if asked, I know, just answer a big NO) u can now work in premiere with no problems. Don't forget to enable it back (now a restart it's a good idea) for export to a file
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity

Better still, do what I did, scrap Premiere and use MSP! Much more user friendly and Marvel-compatible.
