  • What are 'Posts'?

Er just a curio here - Are 'Posts' threads initiated in this forum, or are they the number of times a person has written to the forum, initiating or answering?

Why I just noticed my last three messages sent over last week, all have the same counter number saying 74 - EACH of them !!!

    Any comments?

Whadya mean this wont improve my video making!

I would think a "post" occurs anytime you put a new topic or a response to an existing topic on this server. As for the tally, I too wondered why it doesn't seem to change and I had to surmise that it just doesn't update but every so often. And just so Patrick won't beat me to it, a "post" could also be what you hitch your NLE horse to when you arrive in DV City.

dchip, I was going to tell Biker that posts are the thingies you stick into the ground when you're building a fence, but your answer is much better.

Patrick, we should be milking this one for some more silly humor. Let's see how many computer, NLE, hardware and software names we can use.

"When ah rode inta DV City ah heard tha big news in town. Sheriff Matrox Dillon has a vowed ta capture that notorious memory bank robber, ddclip, an' his partner Virgil Dub, and a render 'em harmless. Nobody knows where 'at Clip gang might strike next."

You said we needed humor here, Patrick, but you didn't specify just how silly. So the story continues.

"Sheriff Dillon is on 'em though. 'cording ta tha Sherriff's timeline, 'em bandits knocked off tha MediaStudio a week ago and stole off widda buncha plugins. Sheriff figgers next theys a plannin to crash tha Adobe Premiere party an' steal off widda coupla 'em Pixelan Spicegirls. Ah's all for tha town bein safe from the likes a 'em Clips, but 'em boys got good taste, hee hee."

(this is what happens when you spend almost a year reading forums and trying to choose a DV editing solution)

...and now we'd like you to put this special jacket on. Yes, I know the sleeves seem rather long...

Well I knew I was asking for it, but the responses were far better than I ever imagined - and of course - I still dont have an answer (Correction an dare I say it - a comprehendible answer?)

Loved it all guys - keep it up.

Now if someone can tell me what a post is?

Sorry Biker, I think I got a bit carried away. I didn't even correctly remember the TV show my "DV constable" was based on. It was Marshal Dillon, not Sheriff Dillon. The Sheriff was down in Mayberry NC but that's a whole nother story. Anyway, this is a post. Thanks for your patience.

                      (sorry, serious answer)

I had just thought that when the UBB software went to re-generate the page (which it does every time someone makes a post), it wrote the latest number under every post. So if I had posted to a thread three times, reaching a count of 12, then went back to make another, all my posts would give "13" as the number of posts.

That's my guess; this hypothesis would also mean that other threads would not get updated with my current count unless I went back and posted in them.

H'mmm Makes good sense - I guess we'll all start checking it now.

Why does it matter? - Well it does'nt really. I just wondered how long one remained a mini Murcer - I mean I am over 6ft. (Joke)

Hmm, my first venture into the DV forum in a while and I think a couple of people have been in here too long. Time to fade away you crazy guys. AARRGGHH! You got me doin' all that stuff!

Anyway, Biker, posts are initiation of new topics as well as replies to old ones. Hence the little buttons you click on say: "Post new topic" and "Post reply"

The reason that the number beside your name is always the same is because your info is held in a database. A little script makes up all these forum pages and builds it each time from the database. So, the most recent information is given.

Please go answer my post about which camcorder to buy!

                          Regards,

                          Paul.

Ok, we seem to have dchip temporarily subdued.

Paul, go check your thread about camcorders...

I did decide in the end that the whole gang was batch-captured down at Realtime Canyon and eventually output to tape and deleted. The storyteller purchased a cooling fan for his horse and rode off into the prarie chipset. And keep that jacket away from me. I aint crazy yet.
