  • S-Video connection

    Hi all

I have a Matrox Marvel G400 and I have just bought a Sony Handycam. The camera has s-video connection that allows connection to the bob. I get video but no sound. Do I still have to have a seperate sound connection ?

Yes SVHS cable only carries video, no audio.

Yes and yes, but MSPro 6.5 is much better for use with DV. Lots of extra features like scene detection, a storyboard etc. etc.

            Yes and yes.

Once you've captured using firewire, you'll never want to go back to using analog capture again.

EDIT: Damn, the Doc beat me by a minute!

Except Ulead's capture over 1394 doesn't preview audio during capture. You can hook the camcorder's analog audio out to your sound card, but it'll likely be out of sync during preview.

You will have audio on the capture, but you won't hear it during the capture.

Pinnacle Studio DV 7 (and now 8) also doesn't allow the audio to be heard during capture, but using a cable with stereo mini-plugs on both ends between the camcorder's headphone jack and the sound card's line input works just fine. I don't notice the sound being out of sync during preview/capture.

                  Thanks Guys for your help.

MSP6 has several capture plug ins

                  Ulead VFW Capture Plug-In
                  Ulead Direct Show Capture Plug-In
                  Ulead MPEG VFW Capture Plug-In
Ulead MPEG Direct Show Capture Plug-In

Can you advise which is best to use

Listen for implusive sounds being heard before you see them on the capture preview. The trasport delay over 1394 to your computer monitor's image is on the order of 100mS. Sometimes more, sometimes less, this isn't very noticable for speech unless you are a lip reader.

Its certainly a minor issue, but depending on your sound card, enabling desabling line in can be a PITA.

For DV you generally want to use the Ulead DirectShow Capture and MSDV drivers for device control.
