random locks with virtual dub

I get an annoying random lock with virtual dub. should I just nuke this install and reinstall or....?

sys config:

mainboard: 1.4tbird/abit kt7a/512micron
hds: 120gig western digital capture/boot: scsi 10k 9 gig/backup: 18gig scsi
video: matrox marvel g400
scsi card: lsi wide pci scsi
sound: turtle beach santa cruz
cd roms: all plextor scsi
os: win2k/sp2/ntfs
