  • mpeg1 on dvd (sudo vcd) how???

    Hi , what`s the best/easiest way of putting multiple mpeg1 files on a dvd with a basic menu. I want to make a large video music compilation. I dont want to re-encode the mpeg1 files to dvd format.
    Cheers. Disastermaster

    ps.Is there any way of using Nero into thinking it is creating a vcd but burns to a dvd?

    The DVD spec allows for MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 using the following resolutions;

    NTSC: 720x480, 704x480, 352x480 (half-D1) and 352x240

    PAL: 720x576, 704x576, 352x576 (half-D1), and 352x288

    Half-D1 is often used to reduce the required bitreate for not only DVD but for cable and satellite transmission. It's best used when there is a minimum of graphics in the project. Titles should use slightly larger fonts with half-D1 to maintain clarity.

    Most DVD authoring programs should support MPEG-1 video.

    That said I'd at least give half-D1 using MPEG-2 a shot. Setting a higher DC component (9 or 10) in your encoder shoud also help boost the quality if it lets you set this value. MPEG-1 uses only 8. TMPGEnc allows 8, 9 or 10 in the usual MPEG-2 profiles.

      AFAIK, you must re-encode at least the audio anyway (48 KHz instead of 44.1)
      Resistance is futile - Microborg will assimilate you.
