  • digital video in media player

    Hello all.

I have a G400 and a firewire card. I until recently only did analog capture and editing with thw matrox card, but to get better quality I now want to use my firewire.

But, how can it be that when I show the DV clips in the windows media player, the images are not deinterlaced. Both fields are shown at the same time which doesnt look pretty.
I have the wmp 7.0, and the DV setting in the options is set to max, which made the images to be shown in full resolution. But still both fields at the same time.

    What do I do?
Is there another mediaplayer that can show the DV clips correct?

    Thanks

I think the real problem is MS DV codec is really retched when decoding to the computer monitor.

I don't know if there is any DV DirectShow codec (filter) that can replace it at present.

Perhaps if you capture a DV type 2 and can get the Main Concept DV codec installed as the default codec things will improve. Hopefully Doc has some experience on this. The bundled MC codecs only seem to work with the application they are bundled with -- Type 1 DV played back in Vegas Video 3 looks much better on the monitor than the same file played back in media player. The trick would be getting the MC codec to repace MS DV completely -- which may be impossible until MC releases a "DirectShow" version.

Now you know why Matrox and Canopus use their own DV codecs: M$DV sucks
